Wednesday, July 18

Well it's the night before the trip to Hawaii. I am all packed, well mostly packed. I still need to pack my laptop and powercord and stuff going into my carry on bag. Other than that though, I am packed. Two suitcases because I couldn't fit everything into one, but I could fit enough into both with space to bring stuff home in.

I also managed a score today. When I was checking in to my United flight, they teased me with an upgrade to first class for just $189. Well, when I looked further, it was just $189 on the LAX-HNL flight, and that was the flight where I had not purchased a ticket to get Economy Plus (with about 5" more leg room.) So while I am still flying Economy Plus from Orlando to LAX, the once crowded coach seat from LAX to HNL has now become luxury 1st class. Oh, and in a sense, its like paying only $129 for the upgrade, because with two checked bags it would have cost me $60 dollars in checked bag fees. But flying first class you get two bags free, boarding first, and you get a meal and you get free alcohol. This 5 1/2 hour flight has now become much more enjoyable. And I get all the First Class privileges from the moment I arrive at the airport in Orlando because one leg is first class. There were no first class seats available on the crowded MCO-LAX flight. But I will live with 5" extra leg room in Economy Plus.

If I keep my fingers crossed, maybe I'll luck out on one of the legs of the flight home. So I leave tomorrow from my house around 4:30-4:45 am, check in around 5:30 am, and the flight leaves at 7:18 from Orlando. Then its 5 hours of flying (I arrive at 9:20 am in LA), an hour and a bit lay over, and then I leave LA at 10:45 am and arrive in Honolulu at 1:26 pm HST (6 hours from EST). By the time I get my luggage and out of the airport, I should be checked into my hotel at 3pm or so. That should give me time to get settled, post text messages that I have arrived, and then grab a quick shower, before heading out to get some supplies for the next few days as well as some food. Early night, and likely a restless one as I get adjusted to the time change.

I don't know what my plans are for Friday or Saturday, but I will probably find something to do in Honolulu. I was thinking of wandering around Chinatown on Friday, and then going to the Hulu festival on Saturday for at least part of the day.

Anyway, I need to get some dinner, and finish handling stuff at the house. Next post will be from Honolulu.

Aloha!
