Two weeks to go!

Happy post 4th of July to everyone. Well today marks the two week countdown before I leave for Hawaii. The weather here in Florida is its usual hot and sultry self, but the weather in Honolulu is the usual low to mid 80s with a fairly strong trade wind to moderate the warmth. So its a good 10 degrees cooler there than here and the much breezier to moderate the humidity. No a/c in the dormitory, but it should be fine.

So much to do before then. I need to finish grading for my summer classes and spend Friday and Saturday finishing up chapters 2 and 3 of my dissertation. I will then work on possible revisions while in Hawaii as well as preparing for my proposal defense in late August and September. Then hopefully I can finish up this fall and have revisions done by Xmas. However, I also need to begin reading all of the materials the EWC is starting to trickle out to the attendees and make sure I have at least some of this material on China and Japan read before I go.

I'll arrive a couple days early and try to get some work done at the hotel before I transfer to the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus on Sunday midday. I also want to get to the Prince Lot Hula Festival on Saturday, if I can find a way to get there rather than spending money on a very expensive taxi ride. The bus is not the most convenient way to get there as I discovered the last time (nor is it that easy to get home from). Because rental car costs are so high, I am hesitant to rent a car for just a day or so. I might do so on Saturday and keep it until Monday or Tuesday (it will allow me to move my own stuff and do some grocery shopping too...) but we shall see.

Anyway, time to get ready to head into the office.  Aloha for now!
